Watches & Wonders 2025: Patek Philippe unveils the highly complex Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001
At Watches & Wonders 2025, Patek Philippe unveiled the Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001, offering visitors a glimpse into the savoir-faire of ultra-high-end watchmaking. Featuring two patented innovations, the watch is a reinterpretation of the watch that premiered at the Tokyo Watch Art Exhibition in 2023. This minute repeater, split-seconds chronograph, and instantaneous perpetual calendar now debut in the Patek Philippe collection in a regular production version in white gold. The 42 mm watch is equipped with multiple complications and features an optimized energy management mechanism.
Patek Philippe’s ultra-complexity
The Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001 is a watch that surprises connoisseurs with its powerful complication and modest dimensions, featuring a minute repeater with two classic gongs, a split-seconds chronograph, and an instantaneous perpetual calendar. This new Patek Philippe Grand Complication watch, 42 mm in diameter and 17.71 mm thick, is equipped with the new R CHR 27 PS QI movement, derived from the triple-complication Ref. 5208 launched in 2011. Its 799 parts include numerous innovative mechanisms, including two new patents for optimized energy management. These include an anti-recoil wheel that prevents chronograph friction at the clutch, and an isolation system that eliminates the split-seconds mechanism’s energy consumption when it stops, thereby improving energy efficiency. Its instantaneous perpetual calendar ensures truly instantaneous changes, with the calendar disc moving in 30 milliseconds through three elegantly arranged day-date-month windows along an arc.
An elegant exhibition of sophisticated and complex timepieces
The fake Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001, with its white gold case and sapphire crystal caseback, is elegant despite its size. Its concave bezel and skeletonized lugs are designed to create a stylish, sporty look. The mirror-polished case is paired with a dazzling sunburst ice-blue dial. The dial is not only beautifully constructed but also highly legible, with three elegantly positioned week-date-month display windows arranged along an arc and a split-second chronograph subdial. In terms of dial decoration, Patek Philippe has equipped the Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001 presented at the 2025 “Watches & Wonders” exhibition with faceted and polished hour markers, calendar window frames, and dauphine hands for the hour-sounding time in a dark blue hue that perfectly matches the dial.
The watch is paired with a square-scale alligator leather strap in bright blue. The patented white gold three-piece folding clasp secures the watch securely to your wrist. The case, while not waterproof, is resistant to moisture and dust.
Its R CHR 27 PS QI movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, has a maximum autonomy of 48 hours, and is wound with a platinum eccentric micro-rotor.
Final Thoughts
Regarding the new luxury watch, Patek Philippe says: “The addition of a particularly energy-intensive rattrapante mechanism was a real challenge for the engineers.” They succeeded in driving a series of energy-intensive complications from the mainspring barrel while optimizing the mechanism for greater efficiency through two patented innovations. The highly complex and impressively elegant Patek Philippe Quadruple Complication Ref. 5308G-001, unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2025, is a classic demonstration of the brand’s prowess in making watches with an exceptional combination of complications.
