Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet is proud to present the [RE]Master02 Automatic, a tribute to an asymmetrical watch created by the brand in 1960 (reference 5159BA)
Following the [RE]Master01 launched in 2020, a reinterpretation of a 1943 chronograph, this new limited edition of 250 pieces features an asymmetrical 41mm rectangular case in a new 18K Saturn gold alloy that oscillates between white and rose gold tones. The [RE]Master02 features a “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” sub-dial, divided into twelve distinct triangles, finished with linear satin that, when assembled, creates a unique play of light and texture. Combining vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge performance, this new model is equipped with the hour-and-split calibre 7129. With this new model, [RE]Master confirms its position as an independent brand that continues to offer modern interpretations of timepieces that defined their era.
Contemporary reinterpretations
Since 1875, Audemars Piguet fake has remained true to its own path, combining watchmaking tradition with cutting-edge technology and pioneering new materials and designs. Over the years, Audemars Piguet has adopted a wide range of materials, colors and case shapes, from traditional geometric shapes such as circles, squares and rectangles to more unexpected trapezoids or octagons. This boundless creativity reflects the free spirit that Audemars Piguet has passed down and nurtured through the generations.
Like a re-mastering of a musical recording, the [RE]Master collection launched in 2020 creatively reinterprets the aesthetic codes of some of the Manufacture’s rarest timepieces, representing their respective eras.
In the 1960s, Audemars Piguet launched several Fauvist-inspired watches with angular, geometric shapes and no ornamentation. This was also the golden age of Audemars Piguet’s asymmetrical watches, with more than 30 models launched between 1959 and 1963, most of which were produced in fewer than 10 pieces. Launched in 1960, the 5159BA, of which seven were produced, one of which now resides in the Audemars Piguet Workshop Museum, belongs to this generation of watches, featuring an asymmetrical 27.5 mm rectangular case in 18K gold and a dial that breaks the rules of traditional watchmaking.
Today, the [RE]Master collection is joined by a 41 mm aventurine case, combining modern watchmaking with historical design. https://www.chronowrist.ru
“Between 1959 and 1963, Audemars Piguet created more than 30 asymmetrical models, most of which were produced in less than 10 pieces. The [RE]Master02 is a great opportunity to relive this forgotten golden age.” Sébastian Vivas, Director of Audemars Piguet Heritage and Museums
Asymmetric Case in Aventurine
The case of the [RE]Master02 is made of aventurine, a new 18K gold alloy whose hue changes between white and rose gold depending on the light and the movement of the wrist. Introduced earlier this year on the Royal Oak Automatic Flying Tourbillon Skeleton, this new material takes its name from the sand dunes and is made of gold, copper and palladium for a warm look.
The asymmetrical case creates a strong visual impact with its multifaceted nature. While its rectangular shape is accentuated by its sharp corners and extended by the integrated lugs, the case also follows the slope of the sapphire crystal at 3 o’clock. Its surfaces are entirely satin-brushed, giving it a matte, “raw” look that contrasts with the polished contours of the dial. Satin-finishing aventurine requires skill and dexterity to ensure that the geometric edges and corners of the case retain their sharpness.
The caseback, also crafted in aventurine, is engraved with the words “Limited Edition” and harmonizes with the dedicated asymmetrical rotor in the same hue. cheap swiss watches
Split dial
The dial of the [RE]Master02 combines different geometric shapes such as rectangles and triangles.
Made using the physical vapour deposition (PVD) technique, the “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial consists of twelve triangles of varying sizes and shapes, separated by galvanised matte gold partitions. Each individually machined brass triangle is given a linear satin finish and then placed on a brass plate using micro feet. After careful assembly by skilled craftsmen, all the parts create a visual effect that plays with the light and brings the dial to life.
To harmonise with the diagonal lines of the case and dial, the hour and minute hands are made of 18 carat matte gold, and the “Audemars Piguet” logo at 3 o’clock is also electroplated. The hour and date indications have been omitted to give full play to the geometric shapes and linear satin finish. The diagonal lines on the dial make it easy to read the time.
The asymmetry of the case is further highlighted by the sapphire crystal, which has a bevel angle of 15.8° for a more visual impact. The design of this beveled crystal mirror took two years to develop and ensures water resistance and meets Audemars Piguet’s quality requirements.
For aesthetic continuity, the [RE]Master02 is equipped with an alligator leather strap, whose blue tone contrasts with the tone of the dial. Its elegant matte finish enhances the effect of light.
Ultra-thin movement
The [RE]Master02 is equipped with Calibre 7129, an ultra-thin hour and minute movement without date indication, based on Calibre 7121, launched in 2022 on the Royal Oak “Jumbo” ultra-thin model. This 2.8 mm thick movement generates more energy thanks to its new architecture and larger barrel, allowing the mechanism to achieve greater precision over a longer period of time. The rotor mounted on a ball bearing is equipped with two commutators to ensure bidirectional winding. In addition, an inertia block has been inserted into the thickness of the balance wheel to prevent aerodynamic friction from slowing it down.
True to Haute Horlogerie tradition, the Calibre 7129 features sophisticated decorations such as Côtes de Genève, circular satin-brushing, snailed, sunray-brushing, circular graining and polished corners, all of which can be admired through the sapphire caseback. The caseback also showcases the dedicated 22-carat gold rotor, whose sandy gold tone subtly echoes the color of the case.
“Audemars Piguet has always been committed to the past while looking to the future. The [RE]Master collection perfectly embodies this spirit and pays tribute to our long watchmaking tradition, with iconic timepieces now reinterpreted using state-of-the-art technology and a resolutely modern approach.” Ilaria Resta, CEO of Audemars Piguet.
The first watch in the collection, launched in 2020 to celebrate the opening of the new Audemars Piguet Museum in Le Brassus, has a vintage aesthetic. This limited edition, limited to 500 pieces, reinterprets a rare chronograph from 1943 with a two-tone steel and rose gold case and a gold dial that retains the aesthetic codes of the original watch. However, this re-edition has a modern touch, with a larger case (40 mm), repositioned counters for enhanced legibility and, of course, the latest-generation chronograph movement, Calibre 4409, whose refined finishing is visible through the sapphire caseback. Combining 1940s design with the latest watchmaking technology, the [Re]master01 symbolizes the tradition and pioneering spirit that runs through every Audemars Piguet watch.
Now, with this limited edition, the [RE]Master collection is being expanded, where Audemars Piguet has reinterpreted some of its older models that left their mark through their unique aesthetics, form or functionality, with modern technology and enhanced ergonomics. https://www.proreviewwatch.co
