Richard Mille presents its latest technological, creative and forward-thinking timepiece: the RM 88 Automatic Tourbillon Smiley. The watch took three years to develop and celebrates the iconic smiley face illustration drawn by Franklin Loufrani more than 50 years ago. The chimes are adorned with countless happy miniature sculptures by Olivier Kuhn, including blooming flowers, warm sunlight, delicious pineapples, thriving cacti, pink flamingos and bright rainbows. Inside the watch’s white ATX ceramic case, each gold microfigure is subtly placed around a central smiley face pattern and affixed to a secondary baseplate. Notably, the striking smiley face pattern is micro-sandblasted and painted in gold, above the detailed landscape on top of the Sport Works Bridge, which features polished corners and brushed edges.
Mechanically, the cheap watch is equipped with a new CRMT7 movement, a skeletonized automatic tourbillon movement, hours, minutes and functions. The bridges of this design are made of grade 5 titanium with an intricate double PBD coating in black and gold, which is also available on the back of the baseplate. On the outside, the crown features the iconic smiley face icon, and the strap is finished in red gold.
